Day 1

Rice FarmingMorning:

Our guide will pick you up from your hotel for the start of an adventurous 3-day discovery of rural Cambodia. During the 4 ½-hour journey you will get a first glimpse of the incredible countryside, the expansive rice fields and small villages along the road.

After arriving in Kratie Province you will take the local ferry to Koh Trong Island, a beautiful and peaceful island opposite the riverfront of Kratie Town. There you will be taken to your home-stay where you can enjoy a typical Khmer lunch. This will include local Pomelo, considered to be the finest in the country.

Afternoon and Evening:

After lunch explore the island by bike or horse cart, the 9-km loop road around the island's perimeter providing the perfect way to explore the area. You will come across traditional villages, fruit orchards and rice fields and witness some of the daily rituals and routines of traditional village life.

The ‘Reforestation Project’ gives you the chance to plant a tree in your name and help to enrich the flora of the island. You can also stop at the Vietnamese pagoda and visit the floating village. Enjoy the diversity of the local cuisine when you have dinner at your homestay and spend the evening with your host family exchanging experiences.

Afterwards you will visit Wat Trasor Muoy Roy, also known as “100 Pillars Pagoda” to explore the pagoda and its surrounding temples.

The next stop is Mekong Turtle Conservation centre where you will learn about the Cantor’s soft-shell turtle, one of the world’s rarest and largest fresh water turtles. Afterwards catch a boat from Sambour to Koh Phdao, the biggest island in the Mekong River.  Then drive to your second homestay where the owner will serve you lunch.

Rice FarmingAfternoon and Evening:

After lunch take a 10-km bike ride to explore the island. You can help the local community through participating in a little voluntary work such as planting and harvesting rice (rainy season only), digging fish and frog ponds, building chicken and duck pens, etc. If you prefer, you can join a Khmer cooking class.

In the evening a beautiful sunset will turn the river into a golden banner. You host family will prepare another lovely dinner for you and can enjoy your second night’s homestay.
