This is the perfect day for the adventurous traveller. Journey through rural Chiang Mai with your guide and driver in a comfortable, custom-built tuk tuk. Visit sacred temples, forest waterfalls and remote hill-tribe villages. Spend meaningful time with elephants and float gently downstream on bamboo rafts.
After breakfast, depart from your hotel and transfer to the tuk tuk base, around 45–60 minutes southwest of the city in the scenic district of Mae Wang. On arrival, meet your tuk tuk for the day—specially modified for mountain roads, offering extra comfort, leg room, and a roll-back roof for panoramic views.
Begin your journey through the Mae Wang valley, passing small farming villages and winding roads. Your first stop is the remote temple of Wat Doi Sapanyoo, known for its giant Buddha statues and sweeping 360-degree views.
Continue north through scattered communities toward Mae Sapok, a valley of rice terraces, water buffalo, and often elephants by the stream. Take a short forest walk to a waterfall, then explore a local hilltribe village. Arrive at the elephant home for lunch, learn about Thai elephants and conservation efforts, help feed them, and walk to the river to assist in bathing.
Next it’s time to enjoy water activities of a different kind as you float lazily down the river on a traditional bamboo raft. With no rapids, this is a chance to take in the scenery from a fresh perspective and enjoy the gentle twists and turns. After rafting, return to Mae Wang via quiet back roads to discover rural communities and visit a peaceful temple, learning about the role of monks in village life. Around 18.00, arrive at a small family-run restaurant for authentic country cooking. After dinner, transfer back to your hotel in Chiang Mai, arriving around 20.00.
